Attending POST

As POST workshops aim to be highly interactive, the size is limited to a maximum of 20 enthusiastic people to allow for effective contribution and facilitation. Workshop attendance is by invitation only to ensure a high level of participation and professional commitment. There are two ways to attend:

  • Request an Invitation - Email your invitation request to the POST organizers. Share your experience related to the topic in your request for attendance. The POST organizers strive to have diverse experiences for the workshop.
  • Receive an Invitation - The POST organizers may invite people who have significant experience or a unique perspective to share on the topic.

All participants are required to submit an abstract, deliver a brief and informal presentation at the workshop, and to actively participate in the workshop discussion.

  • Abstract Submission - All participants are expected to submit an abstract on their presentation in advance of the conference for review. Note joint abstracts/presentations are welcome. Please see the Abstract Guidelines below for more details on developing your abstract.
  • Workshop Presentation - All participants are expected to develop a presentation on the workshop topic, based on their own experience. The presentation should be no longer than 20 minutes, and may be accompanied by illustrations, diagrams or other handout material that enhances the presentation. Please see Presentation Guidelines below for more details on developing your presentation.
  • Active Contribution - All participants are expected to actively engage in discussion as part of the conference experience. Presenters should be prepared for highly interactive group discussion following their presentation.

Abstracts should be based on personal experience and are to be a maximum of 200 words. Your abstract should provide a short summary describing what you will be presenting on and highlight the learning from your experience. If you have no direct experience with the topic your proposal will be considered, however, preference will be given to personal experience reports.

If writing abstract is a new experience for you, please feel free to contact the POST organizers with any questions you may have. We would be happy to provide you with sample abstracts to help get you started.

Abstracts will be reviewed and feedback will be provided if required to ensure comprehensive and diverse topic coverage for the conference. Should there be a need to be selective in confirming attendees, the following biases will be considered:

  • Preference will be given to participants whose abstract is based on personal experience
  • Preference is given to participants who have significant related experience
  • Preference is given to participants who offer a unique perspective through their experience, industry, etc.
  • Preference is given to participants who have not attended a past workshop

POST workshops focus on presentations that are based on personal experience reports. Experience reports are based on real world experience, described and generalized in a way to be of interest to the audience. A "classic" experience report describes the approach and its results in terms of the methods, techniques, languages, tools, processes, prerequisites, problems, and people involved, as appropriate. The presentation evaluates the results and derives experience and insight that is valuable for the audience.

The following are the guidelines for presentations at a POST workshop:

  • Presentations should be no longer than 20 minutes
  • Informal, oral presentations are preferred over PowerPoint presentations
  • If your presentation includes data, diagrams or graphics consider presenting these in their native program where possible (i.e. spreadsheets shown directly in Excel, not copied into PowerPoint.) This will allow you to manipulate data and charts on the fly should the group have interest in representing the data differently.
  • Presentations are to be delivered in first person
  • Joint presentations are welcome

As there may be time constraints to accommodate everyone's presentation, time will be allocated for lightning talks and priority will be given to anyone who has not yet presented. Lightning Talks are short presentations lasting only 5 minutes delivered in a single period by different speakers.

The following will be available for presentations:

  • Laptop
  • Projector
  • White Board
  • Flip Charts

Please contact us to discuss any additional equipment or supplies you may require.

Please review the POST IP Agreement for all attendees.
