The Calgary Perspectives on Software Testing Workshop, POST, is an annual peer conference for software test practitioners, co-founded and co-hosted by Lynn McKee and Nancy Kelln. POST aims to provide an intensive opportunity for experienced individuals who are both passionate and thoughtful about their work in software testing to get together and share their experiences and insights. POST also strives to promote contributions to the field, and help to move thinking about testing forward. Each workshop focuses on a single topic in software testing.
Please see About POST for more details. There are two ways to attend:
As POST workshops aim to be highly interactive, the size is limited to a maximum of 20 enthusiastic people to allow for effective contribution and facilitation. Workshop attendance is by invitation only to ensure a high level of participation and professional commitment.
POST workshops are a more informal setting in comparison to presentations at industry recognized conferences. Each presentation is a maximum of 20 minutes and presenters are encouraged to use informal, oral presentations over PowerPoint presentations. Once the presenter has finished, there will be a facilitated discussion based on the experience report. During this discussion participants may dig deeper into the content, present counter experiences, or share affirmations about something experienced by the speaker.
Participants of the past POST workshop have commented on the casual, safe environment. Even participants who had been tentative about presenting, commented that shortly into the conference proceedings they felt comfortable and were eager to share their perpsectives.
Yes, all participants are required to deliver a brief and informal presentation at the workshop. Please see Attending Post for more details on the requirements for attending a workshop.
Abstracts should be based on personal experience and are to be a maximum of 200 words. Your abstract should provide a short summary describing what you will be presenting on and highlight the learning from your experience. Please see Attending Post for more guidelines in developing abstracts.
If writing abstract is a new experience for you, please feel free to contact the POST organizers with any questions you may have. Additionally, you can reference the Past Workshops for a listing of abstracts from previous workshops.
The focus of POST Workshops is on presentations that are based on personal experience reports. Experience reports are based on real world experience, described and generalized in a way to be of interest to the audience. A "classic" experience report describes the approach and its results in terms of the methods, techniques, languages, tools, processes, prerequisites, problems, and people involved, as appropriate. The presentation evaluates the results and derives experience and insight that is valuable for the audience.
The POST Workshop has an intellectual property (IP) agreement for the workshops that all participants are asked to agree to. Please see IP Agreement for details.
Lightning Talks are short presentations lasting only 5 minutes delivered in a single period by different speakers.
Topic selection will consider emerging trends, industry challenges, burning issues or topics of special interest to the Calgary area. Any topic selected will be narrow enough in scope to ensure it can be reasonably covered within the timeframe available. Topic ideas for future workshops are welcomed.
